American sterling silver child′s cup or mug by Gorham Silversmiths, date marked for 1883 and inscribed: IRA from Uncle Mart, Nov. 22nd 1884. This handsome cup has a gilt interior, an elephant trunk handle and a die rolled decorative band under its rim. The bellied band of embossed decorations has beaded borders. Weighing 140 grams or 4.5 ozs. Troy, this handsome cup is 3 1/8" tall, 3" in diameter and4 1/2" across the handle. Inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
